Story of our Matcha 

Our story begins back in 2016 when we lovingly opened Round & Round, our little cross-cultural cakery here in the Netherlands. Our mission was simple: to share the joy of authentic matcha cakes and drinks with everyone.

In 2017, thanks to an introduction from a dear Japanese friend, we connected with an incredible group of tea producers in Mie Prefecture. These generational artisans are not only masters of their craft, but they are deeply passionate about sharing the very best matcha with the world.

Our commitment deepened in 2018 when we personally visited their tea farms in Japan, gaining a comprehensive understanding of their meticulous cultivation process and production techniques.

During our visit, the farmers explained their efforts to maintain the delicate balance between the tea gardens and the local ecosystem. As a result, the gardens remain unfenced, allowing wild deer and other animals from the local mountains to roam freely among the tea trees. We exclusively use first flush tea leaves for all our matcha.

Our matcha is fully traceable from cultivation to production. The tea factory and local tea farmers have jointly established rigorous regulations to ensure a controlled and consistent production process. Together, the factory and its cooperating farmers patrol the plantations, monitor the annual growth cycle, and forecast the optimal picking time, yield, and pest control strategies.

In 2022, we expanded our vision by opening our sister shop, Matcha Next Door—a cozy, dedicated space made just for true matcha lovers.
